SoilTrader

If you have excess construction soils or are in need of fill, gravel or other construction material, SoilTrader may be the answer to your problem.

SoilTrader is an online trading network for non-hazardous construction spoils that might otherwise be disposed.

Any public or private organization that has access to the Internet, can log on to SoilTrader and either view existing listings or create one of your own.

The only restrictions are that the material is non-hazardous and the material is one of the following:

  • Top Soil
  • Soil
  • Mixed Soil
  • Gravel
  • Concrete
  • Asphalt
  • Clearing debris
  • Fencing
  • Boulders

To view listings or create your own listing is FREE.

The listings tell you the type, volume and location of the material and who to contact. If you see something you need, you can e-mail or telephone the lister directly.

SoilTrader came about when the Bureau of Environmental Services was considering ways to reuse soils from its own excavation projects to reduce disposal and transportation charges and conserve resources. They realized that a reuse network had to expand beyond the City to work. Metro, Port of Portland and the Oregon Department of Transportation joined in, and the program took off.

A few items to keep in mind when using SoilTrader:

  • companies may be held liable if they misrepresent their materials;
  • providers of materials should look at the prospective recipients the same way they would evaluate other options for the materials;
  • recipients should make sure that they can use the material they get; and
  • traders should check the regulations with the appropriate agencies before picking up materials.
