Recently the U.S. Department of Treasury approved Oregon’s plans for four new foreclosure prevention programs on August 4. Homeowners are urged to avoid counselors who charge an up-front fee and also should check the organization's credentials prior to signing any contracts or paying any fees. State Attorney General John Kroger also has developed a good Web page to learn about, report and avoid mortgage fraud. The Financial Fraud Enforcement Task Force's StopFraud. gov Web site also provides some excellent information to help consumers identify, prevent and report mortgage and other types of financial fraud. |
