Portland LEED™

PDX LEED™ (based on NC 2.1) is the country's first supplemental guide to the USGBC national LEED™ (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards. PDX LEED™ maintains the high standards of the national LEED™ rating system while reflecting Portland's commitment to smart growth and sustainable development.

PDX LEED™ enhances USGBC's LEED™ certification in several ways. First, it makes it easier to achieve credits by 'localizing' LEED™ standards - Portland's erosion control, stormwater management, and energy regulations are now recognized by LEED™. Secondly, PDX LEED™ includes a series of pre-approved innovation credits that reflect Portland's goals for mixed use development, construction waste management, alternative transportation, and stormwater management. Finally, PDX LEED™ gathers local building and zoning code regulations and relevant green building resources into a centralized resource guide for Portland-area development professionals.

In 1986 the EPA estimated that US companies generated 136 million tons of building-related C&D waste annually.
