March 17, 2010 - City Council unanimously approves Google Resolution.
Portland prepares its pitch for Google's fiber network
Portland wants Google's fiber -- and so does everyone else
Nominate Portland for Google's experimental gigabit fiber network (Internet Explorer 7 or higher must be downloaded to access this link).
NTIA - Broadband Technology and Opportunity Program (BTOP) Grant
Portland and its 17 partners applied for a Broadband Technology Opportunity Program Grant Proposal named "Connect Portland" Connect Portland will address the critical need for broadband access by Portland, Oregon’s most vulnerable residents, including low-income, unemployed, elderly, children, minorities and immigrants. Supported by a 35% local match, this initiative will double the number of public computers with broadband access in the region, especially in low-income neighborhoods, with 787 new computer workstations and loaner laptops at 33 accessible locations, including libraries, community organizations and community colleges. The project will also deliver targeted computer courses and job search assistance in 7 languages to more than 200,000 thousand users annually.
